January 2013 – 5 Favorites and a Miss or Two

Hi everyone!! I have been such a slacker with my blog. I have a new job and have been settling in.  I am going to make a concerted effort to get back here where I love.   So please bare with me as I try to find my groove again. Ok on to my favorites.

I will probably go all over the place, but I will start with my favorite find for my hair – Tangle Teezer. I am sooo obsessed with this brush.  It looks like a dog brush, it probably is functioning alot like a dog brush, but it is just perfection.  If you ever have issues with tangling and your hair is unruly, as mine is, this brush will tame that sucker and get your hair manageable and luscious.  I got mine at Sally’s beauty supply for around $15 and I will never be without it.

Next is my Bauble Lulu bracelet.  I found this bracelet at a boutique in town that was going out of business.  It is a rhodium plated bracelet for charms (think pandora).  They have all different bracelets, charms, and beads.  I was given charms on a leather necklace for Christmas and just hated the way the silver charms looked on the leather and saw this bracelet and picked it up for 50% off and I love it.  I have to have jewelry that is not gold due to the chemistry of my skin.  I turn gold a dingy color and it discolors my skin, so rhodium is a nice cheap alternative and I love the look.  Their prices are stupid affordable and the quality is great.  So there’s that.  (The charms in the horrific Iphone picture below are not Bauble Lulu charms  I just was showing my cousin how the charms looked on their new home, so I thought I’d show you too).

For my hair, pre brush, I have been loving the Pantene Medium to Thick solutions Dry to Moisturized conditioner.  It has really whipped my poor, dry, pathetic coarse strands into submission.  It smells nice, it’s thick and it’s moisturizing.  I am , now, very interested in trying the one that is frizzy to smooth.  I’ll keep you posted.

For makeup, I have continued to love the Maybelline 24 hour color Tattoos and recently picked up two new colors,
Eye Studio Color Tattoo Metal line.
.  The first color is a blush pink color called Inked in Pink.  It is just a sweet color.  It is the same color as the pink shade in the Wet N Wild Walking on Eggshells palette. I, also, picked up the shimmery silver color called Silver Strike.  I love this color, it’s super shimmery, shiny and obnoxious.  LOVE!   I plan to pick up the rest of the Metal colors they are just my favorite thing for my eyes right now.

For Foundation, I have been loving the Revlon Color Stay Whipped Creme Makeup.  I love the coverage this makeup has, it’s heavy duty without feeling heavy on the skin.  I use the color 110 Ivory.   The color is a good match for me, which most all drugstore foundations tend to be a bit dark on my translucent skin.  I apply this with the Sedona Lace angled flat top kabuki (amazing! Use the code stylefordummies for $4 off your order!!).  The finish is satin/matte on my dry skin.

Onto my misses for this month.  They are both beauty and they are both drugstore.

I am about to start a storm of you know what with this, but it must be said.  I do not like Revlon’s
Color Burst Lip Butter
(AAAAAAAAAHHH).  I have Creamsicle and I just find them dry.  I love the color and the shine, which is so weird that it’s so juicy and so dry at the exact same moment.  I will use it as I love the color, but with chapstick underneath, but no more lip butters for moi.

The other is another I love it but I hate it item.  Maybelline’s Volum’Express The Rocket Mascara.  My lashes look lush and sassy.  However, they feel like I sprayed hairspray on them and the brush is soooo scratchy.  I am going to use it a bit more and probably do a review to show you before and afters of my lashes, but geeze the brush is sooo scratchy on my lashline. not a fan.

Well there are my 5 favorites and a miss or two for January.  If you have any product suggestions you would like to share, I’m in the mood to try some new stuff.

Thanks for stopping by!!

Until next time!!

xoxo,

L

E.L.F. Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil – Review and Swatches

Happy Monday everyone!! I’m here with the promised swatches of the E.L.F. Jumbo Eyeshadow Stick.
e.l.f. Essential Jumbo Eyeshadow Stick
There are 10 shades and 9 are shimmery with Like a Boss being more of a sating finish.

E.L.F. states on their website:
This creamy and pigment rich Jumbo Eyeshadow Stick is perfect for creating a natural or smoky eyeshadow look. Infused with nourishing Vitamin E to condition the delicate eye area. The twist up component and smooth glide formula is easy to use for on-the-go beauty.

I, agree, they are not drying on the eye, although I always use over my Sedona Lace “Stick it to em” primer. I have found on their own they crease on me, but on top of a primer and certainly after setting with a powder they are a great pencil. They are $2 in the essentials line. Like the website said, they are a twist up pencil and do not need a sharpener unless you want to refine the end. I really like these, I hope that they come out with some matte colors and a white would be great. I have one complaint, my shade “Little Miss Thing” completely dislodges itself from the packaging and falls out. (picture at the end). It’s pretty annoying, because it moves in the packaging when I’m attempting to apply it. Other then that annoyance, I do recommend picking up these pencils especially the brighter colors.

Onto the swatches!

TAG – 25 things you didn’t know about me.

This tag was originally made by JuicyTuesday on youtube and I love it so I’m just gonna ramble on for 25 items.

  1. My middle name is Lavern
  2. I convinced my classmates in 4th and 5th grade I had 4 brothers and sisters when I only have 1 and people still ask me about Joe and Michael and Ginger.. (fake siblings)

  8. I’m a terrible crafter which makes me so sad
  9. I have/have had 7 piercings
  10. I dated my husband in 9th grade and we broke up, because ..well I was 14 or 15 and that’s what 14/15 year old people do..  only to meet up with him in college at the age of 19 and well the rest is history
  11. I’m a terrible nail biter
  12. I’ve never been on a plane.. ever..
  13. I have terrible allergies, but could not tell you one thing that I’m allergic to..

  16. I’m obsessed with cleaning my ears.. my doctor gets up my tookus because I have overly clean ears.. oops
  17. I took acting classes my entire adolescent, but I absolutely am a laughable joke when it comes to accents.. everything sounds slightly British with a touch of country and maybe some Australian.. just retched..
  18. I picked out my oldest daughter’s name when I was 8 years old.
  19. My brother was my “man of honor” in my wedding.. no I didn’t make him wear a dress..
  20. I don’t like anyone to touch me with their feet.. ew
  21. My husband and I wanted to elope, but didn’t because our mother’s would have killed us.. so we’re going to get married by Elvis in Vegas like we wanted to at our 10 year anniversary (we’re at year 8 right now)
  22. If I get a spot in the first 5 spots in front of the door of a store, I feel as though it’s a sign that I must buy something.. so I do..
  23. I never go barefoot.. I always have on shoes or house shoes..
  24. My favorite color is orange
  25. My favorite number is 47

So there you go. A look into the real me, and a way to waste 2 minutes.

Until next time!!

Dupe – MAC Bare Study vs Maybelline Color Tattoo Barely Beige

Everyone is talking about how duped the MAC paint pot in Bare Study ($18.50) may have become now that Maybelline 24 hour Color Tattoo Eyeshadow came out with their limited edition color in Barely Beige ($6.99 at Ulta) .  I really think Maybelline has nailed it, but you can be the judge.  For more info on the Color Tattoos you can check out my review here and for swatches of all the new Fall 2012 Limited Edition colors, including Barely Beige, you can go here.

Review – Benefit BADgal Lash

My collection usually has about 3 – 4 opened mascaras that I go through and test.  This month, however, I have only used 1 mascara. Benefit BADgal Lash.  I am so in love with the formula, the brush, and the way my lashes look.  The price is around $20 and it begins to dry more within 3 – 4 weeks (which is not a bad thing), but mine has stayed very useable.  I have noticed it is getting ready to be replaced, but I’ve had it for 2 months now.
